The Nomad® MDS centres on what is called a 'cassette', this cassette holds 7 days of medication at a time and allows up to 6 doses per day. The cassette itself is a neat compact unit that is supplied by the pharmacist ready for use to ensure safe, accurate dispensing, packaging and delivery of medicines. This helps reduce the time spent on checking-in all drugs, carrying out stock checks and helps when administering medicines during medication rounds.
The cassette comes complete with full and accurate medication details of all the medication contained within the cassette including the medications that are not contained in the cassette, such as eye drops and creams etc. The Medication Card allows for easy and quick identification of all the medication for each patient.
In addition to the cassette is the MediChart lid which attaches neatly to the cassette adding another unique feature to the Nomad® system. The lid houses weekly Medication Administration Record sheets (MARs) therefore making it unnecessary to transport additional patient medication files during the medication round.
Another benefit is that at the exact time of administration of medicines the MAR sheet can be signed, therefore reducing any possible errors or omissions.
Other benefits of the Nomad® system is that it can be easily rendered tamper-evident dependant on the needs of the care home. SurgiChem also provide a unique medication return system called Tabag. This ensures completion of the drug audit trail effectively and quickly.
